5. Tame Impala – Lonerism
Tame Impala definitely nailed it with this LP, full of psychedelia, distorted instruments and vocals, catchy melodies and lyrics: the perfect choice for loners. The unconventional Kevin Parker’s recording style gives that special essence to his music, making a normal drum sound like a cool alien instrument. The only downside to this music is that it only sounds good if you listen with a good quality music player and high quality headphones: too many bass and treble for any cheap headphones.
4. Melody’s Echo Chamber – Melody’s Echo Chamber
When you combine the beautiful and soft vocals of Melody Prochet, with the extraordinary psychedelic style of Kevin Parker, you get a nice album like this one. From electric guitar in I Follow You, to electric keyboard in Quand Vas Tu Rentrer ?, this album is melodically rich, psychedelic and immersive, creating a nice and dreamy essence. Definitely, this is one of the best albums.
3. Dirty Projectors – Swing Lo Magellan
This album brings a less perfected style that sounds really great. It sounds like David Longstreth just playing with his crazy ideas, experimenting with music, trying to create a different and original style, and the result was incredible. The weird experimental effects of the clapping, the harmonies and the varying rhythms come together to make music in a way that nobody else has ever done before.
2. Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca
The concept of this album is kinda difficult to understand at first, but once you really start getting into it, you will fall in love with its different style. Bitte Orca combines rock with complex vocal arrangements unlike any other album, in a perfect way, that makes it stunning and rich. This album also encompasses a lot of different styles that fit well together, instead of being consistent and boring.
1. Hundred Waters – The Moon Rang Like a Bell
This album is the most wonderful musical creation that I’ve ever listened. Full of acoustics, reverberations, electronic arrangements and soft vocals, it creates a rich, abstract, complex and immersive atmosphere that takes you to another world, something that only Hundred Waters is able to do that well. Hundred Waters is for me the most talented band in the world, and although their music genre is mainly indie pop and electronic folk, I find it more similar to dream pop.
